Road trips

I have been to hundreds of bars
in dozens of towns
across the Continental United States
and it seems to me
the happiest people have hope and feel purpose.
They have hope that what they are doing supports their lives now and into the future, especially if it supports desired lifestyle changes such as switching jobs from diner waitress to physician's assistant.
They feel purpose when their hope provides for others, such as their children
or just society as a whole.

I left Delaware yesterday and am in Illinois today.  I am road tripping this whole month and it made me think about this.
