I tend to think, as you get older, gently sad is the best you can hope for :)
This has the beauty of a black & white classic. My white-haired mother misses the black & white lines she shared with my toothless father in this every-day way you’ve so aptly described. There’s such a nostalgia in observing this kind of love.
