Double Standards
The sheer audacity of your complaint
Leaves me astounded and incensed
Because you flirted and dated and wooed
All the pretty party girls in the South of France
You bankrolled the girlfriend experience
To prop up your inadequacies
And you thought we didn’t see
But there is nothing more cunning
And no one more equipped
Than a woman and her friends fighting for the truth
We saw , we gave the benefit of the doubt
Because we trusted in the process
We believed in the long game
And we protected and insured my heart
But I never gave up our love or hope
that you would realize how special we were
And so I slipped up, and you pounced
And you decimated and judged
and assumed and blamed
And I will thank myself one day
I will congratulate the fate that decided
You were too weak and spineless
To ever become my children’s father
Leaves me astounded and incensed
Because you flirted and dated and wooed
All the pretty party girls in the South of France
You bankrolled the girlfriend experience
To prop up your inadequacies
And you thought we didn’t see
But there is nothing more cunning
And no one more equipped
Than a woman and her friends fighting for the truth
We saw , we gave the benefit of the doubt
Because we trusted in the process
We believed in the long game
And we protected and insured my heart
But I never gave up our love or hope
that you would realize how special we were
And so I slipped up, and you pounced
And you decimated and judged
and assumed and blamed
And I will thank myself one day
I will congratulate the fate that decided
You were too weak and spineless
To ever become my children’s father
