The Swipe
Lying here in a hospital bed
Feeling like death took a swipe at me
But just missed
Let me tell you a simple truth
When you can't breathe
You miss oxygen
Like a kid at camp
Misses his mom
It's a mournful longing
That fills your soul to the brim
Pushing the everyday
Right out of the picture
When you finally get a breath
You savour it like the finest wine
Man I was scared
It's not every day that you might die
Life sucks but I cling to it
Because life can get better
But dead just stays dead
Feeling like death took a swipe at me
But just missed
Let me tell you a simple truth
When you can't breathe
You miss oxygen
Like a kid at camp
Misses his mom
It's a mournful longing
That fills your soul to the brim
Pushing the everyday
Right out of the picture
When you finally get a breath
You savour it like the finest wine
Man I was scared
It's not every day that you might die
Life sucks but I cling to it
Because life can get better
But dead just stays dead
