Sinner

I don’t like the word “sin”
Equals shame
Equals guilt
Equals never good enough
Sin is arbitrary

Mother’s world said some love
Equals sin
She & her empathy survived
The monochromatic world of her religion
Through rose-colored glasses
Beloved eldest sister & her lifetime partner?
“best-friends” “roommates”
Because someone’s black & white lines
Wrote love = sin
and how could a favorite sister be a sinner?
Eyewear of lies to glide over conundrum

If love = sin
Proudly be a sinner

Self-love was pride was sin
So the humble doormats tried to hide their bi
Because no one wants to be the villainous
Sinner

Let the abusers beat
For “the meek shall inherit the earth”
Ruined as it is by “sinners”
Who seem to be more concerned with preservation
than the rule book

Don’t show cleavage
Don’t sway hips
Be modest
Stumbling blocks are sinners too
Good girls don’t desire
Girls don’t understand lust
But be understanding
Of his lust
His sin is your sin
Don’t make him sin

I hate the word “sin”

I’d rather love
With transparent eyes
