Doing it for the likes

The art of listening
Is a skill I’m working on
The talent of painting my life
To show vivid colors instead of drab hues, ongoing
I’m improving, I’m growing
Always self critiquing
Working on lowering my heart rate, my glucose levels
Trying to stay alive
Hoping to be the very best version
Not accepting failure
But enduring it all the same
It’s complicated, I’m confused
Do I do it for the likes?
No that doesn’t matter
But I’m shallow as hell
I need approval
I want to read a book again
But I’m obsessed with my phone
I yearn for simplicity
But I’m chasing the details
I’m suffocating, no I’m breathing
 But shallow little gasps
I’m going to stay and figure it out
But it’s taking a lifetime
