when I’m rich

when I’m rich I will buy
a record player
and dedicate shelves upon shelves
to vinyls collecting
the songbooks of time
at least as I understand them…

from Red River Valley
to Ian Curtis,
the cowboy songs
and Irish folk…

the mad, the gay,
the melancholic,
the fortunate, happy,
and not…

my tastes might not be yours,
but I’ll be dancing in the buds,

not hastening to bid adieu,
and wanting to sit beside you…
