Where doth the road lie

Dragging through the shadowy night

On a pondering a day's plight

Eyes towards the ground

Not noticing the creeping sound

On the opposite path

Tis a brigand or drunk wrath?

Nay but a smiling face

A welcome sight in this ebony place

Hear the stranger's request

Ridiculous it is surely they jest

Asking for a few years of your life

In exchange decades free from ruin and strife

Yet why do the eyes betray a thirst

A hasty decline to avoid the worst

Increase the steps of your gait

Get away from offers invoking a dark fate

Run towards torchlight and your abode

Never again take that road

For even though in destitution you may die

It's better than seeing where that path may lie
