Saying goodbye to a ghost

There you are,
                and there,
                         now there.

Sit with me a while
I have words for you to hear.

I'm troubled by your visits, and
disturbed when almost normal.

From the back to the front and round
the edges of my thoughts
     you're there
            revolving,
                   spinning
turning me from sparkle to tear.

I have to say goodbye again
I won't be saying it anymore.

It shatters me to let you go.
My shards will shatter, splintering
into the soft tissue of my heart,
but you have to leave, I must be me.

I cannot hold your memory here.
It's soaking through,
                   absorbing me,
                          then dripping.
                                    Dripping
like acid on a dragonfly's wing.
Keeping it earthbound to forget what it is.

I cannot breathe when you haunt,
I'll miss you and I'll die a while.

In order for me to live
                I have to say goodbye.
