These Feet
These feet have walked countless miles
From my first awkward step
Enduring falls and spills, to plains and hills
These feet have walked a hundred miles
Climbing mountains and along beaches by the sea
Each stride with the bold confidence of youth
These feet have walked a thousand miles
A specter, invisible me, staggering through teenage years
Walking alone, stopping often to ponder before moving on
These feet have walked ten thousand miles
Running from here to there, in the rat race
Climbing the ladder, going nowhere, running scared
These feet have walked a hundred thousand miles
On the narrow path with stumbling blocks and wayward falls
Living on the edge, walking the tightrope, trying to heed the righteous call
These feet have walked a million miles
They have become tired and sore, gnarled and boney red
Walking towards eternity, see how many times these feet have bled
These feet have walked a billion miles
Trapsing slowly toward the grave
Walking through life as time quickly slipped by
These feet, the only ones I've got, have walked countless miles
I have to keep moving, careful elderly steps, painfully slow
Deliberately placed, weak, one at a time
These feet, the only ones I've got, have walked countless miles,
Walked countless miles
From my first awkward step
Enduring falls and spills, to plains and hills
These feet have walked a hundred miles
Climbing mountains and along beaches by the sea
Each stride with the bold confidence of youth
These feet have walked a thousand miles
A specter, invisible me, staggering through teenage years
Walking alone, stopping often to ponder before moving on
These feet have walked ten thousand miles
Running from here to there, in the rat race
Climbing the ladder, going nowhere, running scared
These feet have walked a hundred thousand miles
On the narrow path with stumbling blocks and wayward falls
Living on the edge, walking the tightrope, trying to heed the righteous call
These feet have walked a million miles
They have become tired and sore, gnarled and boney red
Walking towards eternity, see how many times these feet have bled
These feet have walked a billion miles
Trapsing slowly toward the grave
Walking through life as time quickly slipped by
These feet, the only ones I've got, have walked countless miles
I have to keep moving, careful elderly steps, painfully slow
Deliberately placed, weak, one at a time
These feet, the only ones I've got, have walked countless miles,
Walked countless miles
