Image for the poem Knew to Know

Knew to Know

The contortions
of time
[a misplaced staircase
mangled
in
displaced sand granules]

Like microtubules
askew
in the flow
of the

Flux
from what what we

Knew

to

what we

Know

*. *. *

I dont drive very much...  (I used to drive
all the time...  Without a license and
breaking the law all the time...)

I had a thing to do the other day
which required me to drive on
the highway...  For the first time
in a long time...  They were doing
road construction and there were
single 60 mph lanes...  A vehicle
pulled up close up on me as I
navigated the thin lane of cones
and concrete barriers...

I remembered driving on rain
swept highways, from Mi
to Fl...  Weaving in between
swift moving semi truck
machines of death...

And candy flipping at the time with a spliff in my mouth...

But yes...

I decided to drive out to the dunes...

Which I haven't seen in so very long...

I mean...  Its been a decade...

To see a sacred place after so long...

My Parnassus...

But to see the shifts of time...

The mangled staircase...

Like a scattered ghost...

Maybe it was simultaneously horror and hope...
