Adieu...

She said goodbye in a dream last night
Or else it was a housecat's ghost
Lingering as an after sight
Where fondness always plays the host.
She dynamized as spirits do
Yet in her familiar way
Of anxious trot and dainty chew
On a garden moth canape.
Then she coursed the hall from room to room
Wondering where she last had slept
And soon enough she would assume
A vacant lap where she'd be kept...
Long enough for a farewell pet
And a purring sound I won't forget.
