THE LEGLESS VETERAN
HERO
As I walked
the halls of the
VA hospital, I
was touched once
again by the heroes
who had sacrificed
for causes they
believed in and
participated in.
A legless veteran
wheeled up to
me with a big smile
with his outstretched hand,
saying, "Hello Major, ain't
it a gorgeous day?"
My sad-sack face because
of the traffic setback
I had just wrestled through,
turned into an ear-to-ear
smile, "Yes, I replied it's
a great day to be alive."
As I walked away I silently
felt joy in my heart, as
I watched the legless
messenger of joy wheel
himself down the hall.
Look around and you, too,
will see a "legless veteran."
You lighten his/her world.
