Life is beautiful
The weather is nice and sunny
It hasn't been this warm in months
The sun shines on my skin and I can feel it melting my numbness away
A light breeze is blowing and it tousles my hair
I breathe it in and it makes me feel lighter somehow
Frees me from whatever has been weighing me down
Life is beautiful, comes to my mind, unbidden
And it catches me off guard
Startles me even
Because when was the last time I thought that?
I don't really remember
I vaguely think it might've been one summer night two years ago
Back when I was happy and still had lots of hope
Back when I wasn't much younger, yet it feels now like I had been only a child then
It's unusual how time passes
At first, it trickles by agonizingly slow
And the mundane routine of everyday life makes it seem like it will go on forever
Until one day it suddenly doesn't
And the way time passes abruptly starts to feel faster
Like it had picked up speed when you weren't looking
Every day is the same still, yet it flashes by in a dizzying blur
You wake up, blink, and the day is already gone
Your bones start to pop when you move swiftly
You start to smile less in fear of getting wrinkles
And you're just waiting for the day your hair turns silver
