When the World Appears Phosphorescent
Vintage family photographs
tucked into the pages of hard backed books long overlooked grace the rack at the second
hand store .
Harsh lighting pitts itself against squares of dull paper, stained
a benign sepia and brown
The once shiney layer has broken down into feathered ends that fade to black against a white border.
The surface is pleasant , searching for emotion with quiet fingertips over the face of a girl who reminds us of our own
Aunt Jean.
She leans lightly into her task
of gardening, of watering hydrangea
Their varied shades of blue. and violet are refreshing as my imagination draws hues from within a subdued photograph
An image of a calico feline brings awareness to the space near the hose coiled in the dirt weaving his body around and between fence posts and pickets a tender relationship exposed in this freeze frame of life
My eyes ease away to gaze at the sky eager to revisit the stories within this photograph
