Soul Mates

“Soul Mates”

Somebody wants to kiss me, kiss me somewhere
Someday—somewhere—I know you’re out there.
Though we are meant to be together
I cannot wait forever.
I don’t want to waste my life in position
For the perfect affection—a connection…
We may have passed in the street
But we still may never meet.

I’m wasting away each day—
Waiting for your aurora—
But there is a haze about me.
And you have lived your life without me
To the smell, perhaps, of the same flora
Where I have wandered in my nakedness.
I want to find you among the tearstains
But the terrible fact remains:
I don’t want to break my loneliness.

There are beacons, and then there are stars,
The beacons are lit, and the sky is ours—
If only we could see from each other’s eyes
We would share these empyreal skies.
Is it possible we have crossed paths before
But could not define the moment we aligned?
I could not define the countenance you wore
No. You could not be defined.
I did not know I met you, you did not see
That you had met me.
It hurts me inside to think
Of the fount from which I shall not drink.
They whose paths we do not cross:
What loss we do not know is loss…
We will never know and will never see
All the futures that shall never be.
We cannot even imagine
The love that could have been.
