The tale of two sould
A poem for the Tragedy Strikes Competition
He used to tickle her chin as she slept to wake her
Now tears trickle down her cheeks as she lays there all night
She used to cling to him as they walked around the crowded fair
Now He clings to the last memories of her smile
He used to hug her as if he was going to lose her if he let go
Now she is holding herself together
She used to laugh when he thought too hard about the math homework
Now she cringes at the thought of school and seeing him
He used to pull the covers over her when she fell asleep before him
Now she pulls them over her head so no one can see her cry
She used to care about everything and everyone
Now she hates almost everything and everyone
He used to love her more than the world
Now she haunts his every thought
They used to kiss whenever they could
Now they keep their hearts closed
As the nights went on
They worried about love and if they would ever find it again
Their love was all they ever knew
He loved her more than anything because his parents abused him
She loved him more than the world, her parents were never there
He lived on the west side of the town, gang lands
She lived in the east side of town, Stuck up kids with worse parents
He thought they would run away together
She wanted to leave
His parents found out
Her father said absolutely not
They cried every night
One night she found her fathers hand gun
One night he found a bottle of sleeping pills
She called him up and told him she was sorry for leaving him
Her parents were gone
He told her the same
His parents were in jail again
She told him she loved him more than the world
He knew he loved her more than the world and he told her
She told him her plans
He told her his
They agreed to meet up at the park
She kissed him one last time
He grabbed her and hugged her for the last time
They laid next to each other on the damp grass
She looked into his eyes
He gazed into her soul
They each took a bullet for a quick death
She pulled the trigger first and her eyes were closed for eternity
He looked over her and saw her smiling so he pulled the trigger
They were found the next morning
She was still smiling
He was laying across her holding her for eternity
Their parents assumed they were never meant to be together
Her mother wept over the lost love she encouraged
Her father cursed the boy for ever looking at her
His mother took another drag of a cigarette and cursed his name
His father mourned his only son
They were buried next to each other as the note they left said.
Their grave stones read a message all people too into account that day as it rained
They loved and lost. They cared and were cursed. They saw all the beauty in the world. The world spat on them. If there ever were people who deserve to live it would have been them. They people who took them away will always be haunted by their memory,
Sleep well sweet children
The pastor knew then both very well and cried with his wife over their graves as he read the note.
His parents were thrown in jail for 32 counts of child abuse
never to be let out
Her mother committed suicide three years later, her father was thrown in jail for life for fraud and a porn ring
Never had two people loved and lost as they
He held her like she was going to be lost one day
She kissed him like tomorrow didn't exist...
