Indecency

It has been claimed
that “decent” people do not kiss
when they are walking down the street
or show affection publicly.
 
For then, it’s also claimed,  
they feel there’s something that
they will not well possess
if they did this.
 
But what this “something” is  
this claimant left us all to guess.
 
For he, so deixis bound,
has been remiss (again)
in saying what these “decent” ones
wish not a deprivation of
some unknown thing
to be their fate.
 
In any case, I think
that if this claimant ever were
to Paris go,  
then he, the squeamish prude
that’s he,
would have to say
that city is
the center of indecency.
 
Parisians think their streets
should be a place
where love is always on display
for it’s the thing
that makes their city glow
with light that is divine.
And having been there several times
myself, I think it’s safe
for me to say,
they’re right, you know.
It’s good to see
that people are bound up in love
and have no shame in showing that
they feel it's good to celebrate,  
profess out loud, exhibit joyously
on sidewalks and cafes, within their parks
and common ground
from day to day,
the glories of  
god’s greatest gift to humankind.
