I've written about this elsewhere on dup, but I'll repeat it here. Full disclosure: I'm not a fan of Haiku... However, many years ago, I happened on a book, an anthology of 1000 Japanese Haiku, written by Japanese poets, on the subject of sea cucumbers. The poems were arranged by the way the poet perceived or portrayed the sea-cucumber, or namako: as a hermit, as a sea-tramp, as symbol of humility, as a delicacy, etc. Recently, a sea-cucumber poaching and smuggling ring was busted in Japan.
