Hopes and promises.
I hope, one day, that you will believe
Me when I say I don't up and leave
As soon as I have heard you heave
A sigh. I'll never knowingly deceive
You. Just promise, my heart, you'll never cleave
Or shatter my soul; tattered on my sleeve
I'd wear my life while I would grieve.
And I promise that while you are with me
I'll keep you as safe as you can be
For I wish to prevent any tragedy
From befalling the one who chose to see
A different part of my life, and I thank thee
Kindly. Softly. Honestly.
I give my soul for you to hold, freely.
Me when I say I don't up and leave
As soon as I have heard you heave
A sigh. I'll never knowingly deceive
You. Just promise, my heart, you'll never cleave
Or shatter my soul; tattered on my sleeve
I'd wear my life while I would grieve.
And I promise that while you are with me
I'll keep you as safe as you can be
For I wish to prevent any tragedy
From befalling the one who chose to see
A different part of my life, and I thank thee
Kindly. Softly. Honestly.
I give my soul for you to hold, freely.
