the girl next door
the girl next door
with a smile i adored
she seemed so content
and had a signature scent
of molasses and honey
she was a day when its sunny
she carried a journal of thoughts
and always wore a jacket with speckled spots
she drank chamomile tea
and flowed through life like the sea
her hair was a streaky blonde
and in her backyard she had a muggy pond
her aspirations were bigger than mine
and i'm pretty sure she has a crooked spine
but she wasn't as perfect as she seemed
apparently her happiness was something I dreamed
her smile was fictitious and just for show
instead she has bruises that covered her head to toe
she melted from my hands like white snow
everything about her i knew was a lie
and her journal was really filled with letters of goodbye
so soon after graduation she was far in the sky
and forever after i was a lonely guy
who has assumed the best and chose to deny
and now i picture her as a rainstorm in july
with a smile i adored
she seemed so content
and had a signature scent
of molasses and honey
she was a day when its sunny
she carried a journal of thoughts
and always wore a jacket with speckled spots
she drank chamomile tea
