Prayers From One Flesh

Behind your eyes are mysteries
Worlds I’ll never know
But part of my possessing
Wants to see below

Is there darkness or inner light?
What brings our lives together?

In the corner of your human eye
A tiny salty tear
But, in your gaze no sadness
Perhaps a little fear

What mysteries fill your human self?
What stories could you tell?

We now answer distant voices
Piercing ancient cries
Calling us together through
The locking of our eyes

What are the needs we feel this night?
What species brought fourth these lusts?

The ancient cries possess us now
We abandon our deepest selves
Legs spread in kind surrender
Opening your human well

What is this space I enter now?
Who designed such wondrous beauty?

You whisper as I enter in
Small human words you share
I whisper back into your ear
One flesh as if in prayer

What spirits are these to whom we pray?
Where will our journeys end?

The spirit voices answer firm
That we shall end in death
And so we writhe and thrust our flesh
As long as we have breath
