Phase one is when you believe you’ve found the one,
Feelings you’ve never felt before, so when he calls, you up and run.
Run to the euphoria, he very quickly became,
But once phase two comes along, you’ll start seeing that it’s all just a game.
But right now, the love bombs feel so good,
So when the mask starts to slip, your shocked when he treats you in a way you never thought he would.
But currently, he’s drowning you with his presence, getting you nice and hooked,
All the while you ignore every red flag in the toxic relationship book.
You just want this so bad, it feels so right,
And he knows it too, laying with you every single night.
Idolization in its rawest form, he put you on a pedestal,
Says he’s never met a woman quite as beautiful as you.
Never had so much in common with someone before,
But it’s all just his tactic, insurance of sorts, to be certain you’re hooked for sure.
Once you’re hooked, devaluing, the second, phase begins,
Small jabs at first throw you off and get under your skin.
You start to be confused, this can’t be the sweet man that you love,
You feel lost, and your heart strings start to tug.
You go from perfect to flawed, within a matter of weeks,
You try and fix the disconnect, not ready to face defeat.
But he thrives on your agony, little do you know,
You begin to feel insecure, all the while watching his ego grow.
Time goes on, and at this point your brain is almost fried,
One minute it’s like you’re nothing to him, but once you’re ready to leave, it seems he’s dropped his pride.
He says that he’s sorry, he’s just been under stress, but he needs you,
And you think you’re getting your beautiful love back, so you accept every apology he feeds you.
See, you’re looking at him with a normal mind, you think you can fix it all,
What you don’t know is that he’s a monster, he likes to knock you down and watch how hard you fall.
So you play the push and pull game for a while, forming an emotional addiction,
But phase three is right around the corner, for he’s already spotted his next victim.
So as you work harder to get the feelings back from phase one,
You’re almost on phase three, he’s already pretty much done.
You bore him now, you are just too much,
Too clingy, too needy, now with your sanity you begin to lose touch.
He looks at you, and you can see the contempt he holds,
Phase three is here, your beautiful relationship is gone, and the truth unfolds.
The discard is here now, it’s the final phase,
He’s dropped the mask and the act, and now you can see his real ways.
Look at it like a child with an old toy, he’s done playing with you now,
You’re old news, and it hurts, but he doesn’t care how it feels and he won’t start now.
The discard is shocking, like being thrown into ice cold water,
You doubt everything about yourself, if only you’d have just worked harder.
Now you’re left alone, he’s moved on to someone new,
You may even hear from him how she’s so much better than you.
No, the discard isn’t enough, he wants you know,
How happy he is now, how much you’ve taught him and helped him to grow.
Because NOW he can be better for her, he knows just what to do,
You try and remind him that he promised he’d never hurt you.
After it’s all said and done, he’s left and gone his own way,
The feelings you have now are grueling, and you struggle to make it through your day.
You can’t believe your soulmate is gone, and happy without you,
You try even still to reach his heart, to fix it, there’s nothing you won’t do...
To get the love back, you want him, and you need your fix,
Because toxic love is an addiction, bad for you, and hard to kick.
