Image for the poem It Can

It Can't Be Nothing

Research and I
Are old friends
We go back
Many, many years
I absolutely love
Poking around
In things
Really digging deep
In sometimes dull
Or even pointless ones

But, I confess that
Looking into songs
And finding their
Hidden meanings
Is my favorite
Thing of all.
Sometimes, my
Research proves
To be a
little disappointing

Such was the case
When I found out
For myself that
The iconic song
Of the 60's
"The Sounds
Of Silence" by
Paul Simon was
Despite it's loose ties
To the Vietnam War,
 written
About absolutely
Nothing

Would someone
Tell me pretty please
How that could be?
Isn't that just
A major
Kick in the pants?
It sure seems
Like that
To me.
