Shivering

In a round-about way
you killed me in those moments
Sleep was still encrusted
in the creases of my nightmares

They weren't the worst words ever thrown at me
But they hit with the hardest blow
Softly shattering
I couldn't grasp all of the pieces fast enough

I just couldn't

This grotesque mosaic lies within its own lies
useless on the floor of my hollow dreams
I shuffle the shards around a bit
Trying to make them make some sense

somehow

"This is what it must be like"
The words bounce back to me
from cold walls and nothing here breaths
A ghost before death could even grasp me
with his embrace of finality.

I always have jumped the gun...
