Caverns

                 Within,

                 Are damp limestone caverns

                 Without light, since new strata

                 Cut off the day.

                 Water permeates where it will.

                 Calcium dissolved and redeposited

                 Forms nightmare shapes or

                       Visions of a darker beauty

                 That dwell in silence.


                 Yet,

                 The secret child within

                       Me cries. Walled in deep

                       Caves,uncomforted, alone.

                       Inaccessible to reason,

                       Cut off from warmth

                       His tears etch the stone.
