Beautiful Inside

The old man was sitting
Eating his lunch, on a bench, all alone
A beautiful girl sits next to him
As she's talking to a friend on the phone
He silently weeps
As her ugliness seeps
He begins to notice every flaw
She gets up to go
Just a little too slow
He wonders what was the beauty he saw

The old man was sitting
Feeding the birds in the park
A young girl sits next to him
And they pass the time making small talk
She's a little overweight
And her nose isn't straight
At first he notices each flaw
But she's funny and bright
And they could have talked all night
He's in wonder at the beauty he saw

Chorus:
All the cosmetics in the world won't change it
All the work in the gym won't do
A new hairdo can't fix it
Beauty can only be changed by you
True beauty is something you can't hide
People who care, people who share
Have a beauty that comes from inside

The old man was sitting
Considering both his future and past
Waking up every morning
Not knowing if this will be his last
He thinks about the people he's known
and the beauty he's been shown
He wonders what others see in him
Was he someone who shared
Was he someone that cared
Did he have true beauty within

Chorus

Author's Note
I'm sure the critics would hate this one, but it all started with a quote (supposedly) from Albert Einstein, “Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. That's relativity.”
