Count my Thorns and Tattered Leaves
if you spot me in the field
where you once crushed me
count my thorns and tattered leaves
if you notice my spring vibrancy
and stop to smell my breath
don’t forget
count my thorns and tattered leaves
i didn’t always look this way
know that flowers don’t grow the same
take time now, to admire what you see
zoom in closely
count my thorns and tattered leaves
i wear these wounds proudly
it’s impossible to hide the pain I’m bearing
can’t stop the petals from tearing
or the stem from bending
so pause what you’re doing
count my thorns and tattered leaves
and whatever you do
don’t dare uproot me
you’ll be pricked
start counting.
