Silence

Why is silence considered
Deafening?

Sure I’ve experienced
Awkward silence,
But only after something’s been said
That has to be answered...

Or simply can’t be ignored
Like the point of no return.

i.e.

The ending of a relationship,
“I cheated”

Life event,
“I’m pregnant”

Or the dreaded,
“We need to talk”

But besides that
I enjoy silence!
Unless you have something interesting,
Or important to say
Is it necessary that you disturb
My peace,
my thoughts
Or maybe my lack of thought,
With your useless small talk?

Why can’t we coexist
In close proximity
Enjoy each other’s presence
Without feeling the need to speak
Needless drivel to each other out of
Some unspoken rule of obligation?

STFU!!!

Enjoy my blissful silence
