Nightfall
Night falls
It seems with tender care
In its still and timeless way
Quiet now
Save the ticking of the clock
For all has settled in
As I await the fade to dreams
And with dreams
Vignettes of you
You
Who are timeless in my heart's keeping
Like love's softest melody
Notes silvered by moonlight's gleam
Could you love one such as I
I wonder
For surely I love you such as you are
The real
And all I imagine you to be
For the imagined is simply the quiver
The first warm touch of sun upon the flower
Which stirs the petals to unfold
And I long to see you glistening in the morning's light
As dreams and real mingle
To feel the night fall sealed with kisses
And the sunrise warmed by the same
To kiss you softly, slow
Your face
Your lips
The arc of your neck as you nuzzle into me
Then more hungerly
As if I could never get enough of you -
For night is magic and mystery
And not all enchantments spoken
No, nor all spells meant to be broken
Beguile me in the depth of night
When all is shadowed close
And you beneath me
Your hair the scent of incense
As you yield the gates of heaven
Is love as I have imaged you
Or is there more I shall awaken to
For my heart dares believe
I do not dream alone
Whisper to me dreams
You'd share with no one else
Could you but chance to love me
Is there not chance such love would grow
Grow as my longings in the evening
Stir as my hopes before the dawn
Which only lie this night silently dreaming
In the stillness as night wears on
It seems with tender care
In its still and timeless way
Quiet now
Save the ticking of the clock
For all has settled in
As I await the fade to dreams
And with dreams
Vignettes of you
You
Who are timeless in my heart's keeping
Like love's softest melody
