Prayer for Closure

Prayer for Closure

Broken words not fit to rhyme,
Tracing over someone else’s lines,
Attempting to take ownership,
Owning only a sale-worthy fake,
Yearning for moments that never took place,
Making more up when the well runs dry,
New places, new people, new things,
Only they’re old friends, past lovers, regrets,
Taking another swig of liquid fortitude,
Hardened in the fires of cocaine and rocket fuel,
One to rule them all in a kingdom of none,
Insanity licking at the walls of pristine chapels,
Left to rot and decay in the light of the sun,
Perverted desire twisted into submission,
Aching to be broken, but shutting down first,
Praying for an end to something,
In a mind where anything goes,
And nothing goes away.
