silence breeding contempt

thick and nearly tangible,
buzzing empty air.
Salt, sting, and questions,
thoughts that we don't share.

Shrouded with our fading past,
lie somewhere, love and lust.
While the silence breeds contempt,
we're getting lost in smoke and dust.

Actions are misleading
when conversation's dead.
And we'll tear ourselves to pieces
with the words we leave unsaid.

Sticks and stones will break our bones
and words can stir up fear
but the silence is a poison;
a looming threat that we can't hear.
