candy drift

cloying caramel
rotten-sweet defeat
for leering tongues
and hearts that long
  to drift along
where they don’t belong
flagrant intoxicant
for those who want
the inelegant ruin
of the piquant moon
for far too soon
drunk spirits swoon

where foolish thirsts
insist on decadent
fulfillment
              but she burns out
             overnight
when the blood boils
and mornings begin
   without ambition
             except to cheat again
             to face defeat again
                and drift along
where they don’t belong
