Hope Delayed
These robes of lost promised hope
threads entangled by discord
hung in tatters by long abuse
by the rulers of this world
vestments tarnished without regard
for the hope that’s been lost
believers searching among the bones
finding only a sad heirloom
when wrapped tightly to evoke
happiness sought above all else
this is the pledge lost to deceit
surviving only in servant’s thoughts
the threads unravel by day’s end
an emperor left without their clout
still the theists long for a time
hope delayed on the decline.

This is a write that one can ponder for significance on many levels. My favorite lines; “when wrapped tightly to evoke

I like this stanza as well. It can be interpreted with either hope or despair for humanity. The latter was implied by the author.

The commonality of words used to manipulate and abuse is anathema.

Sadly, I don't see much hope in the current affairs of mankind. BUT, with that said, how are we any different from the terrible times of the past?
