Morning Rituals
morning rituals
proceed in the bathroom
as the mirror watches me
brush my strawberry blonde tresses
i feel it smile back at me
as I touch the glass, I feel it
the same weight as the day before
but a day older
and a day closer to my death
i spend hours at a time
gazing into this manifestation of myself
for if a mirror reflected what’s real
it would break before me
so I’m stuck with a glass interpretation
of what should be
but I’ll keep brushing
i’ll keep watching
holding onto this ritual
because I know I’m rehearsing
saying goodbye every morning
proceed in the bathroom
as the mirror watches me
brush my strawberry blonde tresses
i feel it smile back at me
as I touch the glass, I feel it
the same weight as the day before
but a day older
and a day closer to my death
i spend hours at a time
gazing into this manifestation of myself
for if a mirror reflected what’s real
it would break before me
so I’m stuck with a glass interpretation
of what should be
but I’ll keep brushing
i’ll keep watching
holding onto this ritual
because I know I’m rehearsing
saying goodbye every morning
