The Problem with Space
I’ve a problem with the space
between my ribs
It heaves and shifts when I breathe
And my lungs press against them, hard
So hard I think my lungs must be
Trying to escape their cage
Claw their way out
There’s also the matter of the space
around my heart
It echoes and vibrates when I live
And my heart feels suffocated, stunted
So it tries to skip a beat
Letting everyone know this cavern
Isn’t big enough
And then there’s the space
that surrounds my soul
It glows and shines when I move
And my soul longs to stay close
So close that it’s hard to breathe
Allowing those who can see it, to see that
It’s not shared easily
And I almost forgot about the space
that stretches from me to you
It’s invisible but noticeable when we talk
And my fingers throw a golden thread your way
So you can catch it
Keeping it close so you can’t feel the space
It’s covering us already
It’s suffocating in its expanse
That’s the problem with space
between my ribs
It heaves and shifts when I breathe
And my lungs press against them, hard
So hard I think my lungs must be
Trying to escape their cage
Claw their way out
There’s also the matter of the space
around my heart
It echoes and vibrates when I live
And my heart feels suffocated, stunted
So it tries to skip a beat
Letting everyone know this cavern
Isn’t big enough
And then there’s the space
that surrounds my soul
It glows and shines when I move
And my soul longs to stay close
So close that it’s hard to breathe
Allowing those who can see it, to see that
It’s not shared easily
And I almost forgot about the space
that stretches from me to you
It’s invisible but noticeable when we talk
And my fingers throw a golden thread your way
So you can catch it
Keeping it close so you can’t feel the space
It’s covering us already
It’s suffocating in its expanse
That’s the problem with space
