despite my best efforts
fail
and end up pondering
who?
was here last
who?
here breathed his last?
this spot now
where hung
are jerseys
flowers and poetry
gimme a solemn reminder
of a place now
of memories
my doof-doofing car
comes to a muted pass
no
not out of fear of death
but
of the obvious natural
respect!
mate

whoever, wherever you are
before you were here

this needed to come out...years now observing the memorial by the roadside where some young soul breathed his last.

I too have passed by many roadside memorials, and
In those times I'm not preoccupied with my own
self important life, I sometimes wonder what kind of person
were they, good?, bad?, did their passing have an affect
on the rest of us in some way? along with the obviously being missed
by whomever took the time and effort to mark the spot where
their lives ended.
Those who I know (yes, know, not knew,
for they continue in my thoughts from time to time),
I think, "hello,_____, hope you're doing well, wish you
were still here." Yet, for those I did not know, I don't
recall ever saying the same.
Perhaps that speaks in some way of my humanity towards
my fellow mankind, in that I did not include in that moment of wondering
to at the least say:
"Hello, I know you're missed, hope you're doing well."
This, thoughtfully written, by a beautiful soul, and a shameful reminder
of how far I've yet to grow.

A great muse reflective and worded in a fabulous style and way. Thoughtful when we choose to ponder poetically like you did on his grave. I like this poem how u wrote it. Kudos.
