Shadow Work

Excuse me Mr. Dane, you have some unfinished business
Overturn your grave, so you can write that record like Guinness
I long to know what sounds you'd sew together while recording
That majestic voice you had, you always left the crowds roaring

I wonder, what was the final verse on the page
Before your heart gave out, left premature for your age
Thousands mourned around the world, the loss of savant
I will not forget your legacy, your soul still haunts
The halls within my skull, such a fitting home for you
You helped me explore my demons, just wish I could help you too

But there's no help for the dead, I can only commemorate
Imagine what you said in those lyrics that came too late
Sad to say, if you were just any musician
Someone else could sing them in your place and I'd still listen
But I fear that not a single soul is up to the task
You set the bar too high, and your body didn't last

I think your spirit stuck around,
Longing to produce the sound
Of the album you were working on
Once godlike, but now you're gone

As you drift further down the river
Ferryman sure to deliver
To your final destination
When you arrive it's an invasion

Now you can rock the underworld
With ghostly howls like never heard
You were so gifted vocally
You'll be a legend locally
Angels harken to your presence
Pitfiends darken at your essence
Complete your 'Shadow Work', such a glorious endeavor
Where you failed in life, you are victorious in nether

Author's Note
A little while back an amazing metal musician named Warrel Dane died of a heart attack. I guess I decided to write a poem about it after hearing he had another solo record coming at the time of his death, which sadly will never come to fruition (his first was amazing, speaks to me on a spiritual level)
