Limiting Ourselves

Some people are good
Some people are bad
Some people are book smart
Some people are street smart
Some people are athletic
Some people are artists
Some people are struggling
Some people take life for granted
We all co-exist
In this small place we call home
In a town in a city
In a city in a county
In a county in a state
In a state in a country
In a country in a continent
In a continent in a planet
In a planet in a solar system
In a solar system in a universe
We are but pinpricks on a map
We are nothing compared to everything
Everyone is different
But we’re all built the same
Yet we tend to ignore that
And call each other names
We put ourselves in groups
And exclude those who aren’t the same
Limiting ourselves
To only what we are
Not to what we could be
If we would reach out and try
Talk to new people and discover new things
You can help others yes
But you also help yourself
You’re expanding yourself
And the more you expand yourself
The more you can be
But people don’t realize this
Because they’re too quick to judge
They never open up what could be
They leave it at what it is
So nothing changes
Nothing gets better
And nothing gets worse
Then they complain
And ask each other why
Why do we still have these problems?
Why aren’t they being fixed yet?
The answer is simple
Because the problem is us
Limiting ourselves.
