freeze

a life absent from itself--horizons, walls never breached--
borders like a prison, forests never tread, beaches never slumbered,
a sky never climbed, depths never reached,
a world never known--the details of immedate surroundings
memorized, categorized, and jaded to predictable hypnotics
'that kill the pain but not the mind that remembers and dreams--
clouds drifting above, stealing shapes from the imagination,
popluating an impossible world that will inevitibly fall in tears--
the sun, a cruel eye glaring, illuminating love and loss alike
without difference or remorse for the souls it burns away--
so much nothing to live in a day, a yesterday that never ends

There's a mask i wear when friends arrive, there are pleasant colors
mixed in eyes that cannot falter, plastic holds eternal
a carbon stare, a smile like a scar
You learn to freeze
