Body Electric

"I sing the body electric,
The armies of those I love engirth me and I
     engirth them,
They will not let me off till I go with them,
    respond to them,
And discorrupt them, and charge them full
with the charge of the soul."

            - I Sing the Body Electric, Walt Whitman

I am missing the body electric -
The way we'd sigh
                        to these
Age old verses -
              You and I
So little compared to the universes -
        In our minds and
these words that shock the skin,
The spirit,
They never want to hear it -
Drown in alcohol and swim with it
They never really taste it
         and I
                       don't really want their kisses.

Their fire dies easily
With the coming of the morning
And the end of their cigarettes.
Their songs get old quickly -
                 A serenade becoming whining,
becoming a slap of me owing
                       them something.
For they want the sparks of my fingers,
And they want to give something I can't return.
They want to take the shakes and the
      Skin burning that doesn't
Belong
      To them.

I asked them to stop the whining poetic -
I fucking owe them nothing.

Because I seek the body electric.
         these lines
these verses
                  these words
To shake me to
                                My core.
To melt the frozen with each
Shock and shiver -
To hell with mediocre.
Sing me fire.
Sing me electric.
