The Blackened Veil
Down at the end of the line
At the end of the rope
With unraveling twine
At the end of the twisting
Yellow brick road’s green glimmer
Shows burned out black city
Instead of emerald shimmer
And the citizens need no pity
Dark and proud every one
With hearts of broken stone
An inner core with beating flesh
Is bleeding red love like your own
They warm themselves beside the fire
Of cold open eyes as dark as coal
Whose jaded sight burns with desire
They wait before the blackened veil
For the coming resolution
Where for all the heartache
There will be solution
At the end of the rope
With unraveling twine
At the end of the twisting
Yellow brick road’s green glimmer
Shows burned out black city
Instead of emerald shimmer
And the citizens need no pity
Dark and proud every one
With hearts of broken stone
An inner core with beating flesh
Is bleeding red love like your own
They warm themselves beside the fire
Of cold open eyes as dark as coal
Whose jaded sight burns with desire
They wait before the blackened veil
For the coming resolution
Where for all the heartache
There will be solution
