Stay

Stay,  evening fades and clouds enfold,
earth still, darkening greens, day is done
until tomorrow,waiting in the east.
Nightjars,  competing  fox and badger
flowers closed against the early dew,
nectar  safe, morning   sun and skylark.
 Ponds mirror smooth,  no breeze
disturbs, time  to think, reflect.
.A daily round, as of today,  circling
pasture, copse  and churchyard stone.
Swaddling stillness embalms ,vapours rise
evening fades and  clouds enfold.
Thrusting roots wake worms and snail .
Winter storms no more ( the hopes of man
and wildling dreams )
Stay awhile, stay, watch, watch evening fade.
Wait   ...   ...   ...   ...   ...   ...
'til darkening green fields fade to night.
