Too Close For Comfort

I drew a cat while you messed with the back of your guitar
And it was nice
And quiet
And we didn’t have to pretend
Or speak
Just sit and do what we do when we are alone
As if we were alone
Except we weren't;

And when you left I remembered how comforting it is to be in the same room with you
i didn’t want to let go
More than before
and I almost wished you would turn around
and come back to kiss me
one more time
 or two more times
Tell me you didn’t have to go
even though we both know how tired I was
And all the in between;

You
are like the forest
When the wind makes the leaves sound like rain
You
are like side walks
 with flowers growing from the cracks in my grandmas old neighborhood
You
are like the stones
 I’ve never known how to skip and summer nights watching teenagers cross the street in laughter
Damp asfault
Bronze lighting
Cars beeping
And me
The ocean a constant soundtrack
To that place;

I don’t know what I’m doing
And I keep thinking that
And I know you’ve told me to stop worrying so much
I try
I’ll try
