Exterior Conflicts Leave Interior Scars

Words slip from their mouths like snakes;
wrapping around you and squeezing until you can no longer breathe.
The lack of oxygen flowing to your head causes you to believe they’re speaking only the truth,
but that in itself is a mass complexity of lies.
No matter where you run,
you can’t escape their haunting voices.
You’ve become a prisoner to the thoughts in your own head,
because they are what restrict you from crying for help.
Haven’t you ever heard that demons can’t be trusted?

And everyone’s struggling through these hardships,
but you’re fighting in a war against yourself in which you’ll lose even if you win.
You’re unsure whether it’s worth it to keep going,
but I can assure you the answer will always be yes.

With years to come the light will return to your eyes,
and a smile will play on your lips as you contemplate how far you’ve come.
You are a warrior with too many psychological scars to count,
but now you are much stronger than you’ve ever been before.
