The Monster Inside

In the wind, so skinny he'd sway
He'd look straight down with nothing to say
His eyes would shift as soon as they're seen
They hide if he's kind. They hide if he's mean

Then one day the word came down
That scrawny kid put who in the ground?
How could they have been so blind
He's a freak, the most dangerous kind

"We'll hold him tight, for as long as we can
We won't let him out until he's a man"
His parents were told, "We'll break him you'll see
He'll want to be dead. He'll beg to be free"

He asked for no help. He wanted no shrink
He wanted no time. No time to think
He had a plan that couldn't be beat
Intricately woven to lay at their feet

"You wanted to know what you would find"
He said without reason. He said without mind
"I'll shine a light and then you'll see
The monsters inside. The monsters in me..."

"My brother died by my forced hand
If I had the chance I'd do it again
I can not apologize you see
For killing a man who twice raped me"

"He is as guilty as sin", the judge he said
As a father sits crying and holding his head
"You'll go away for a very long time
If sentencing is a job to be mine"

A family broken down to sides
When he was freed, with nothing to hide
He left that night, surreal and sublime
Hopefully leaving that child behind
