Vessels

She woke before day break and watched the flow
Of water, as the river churned its way
Northwards; there the barges seemed to grow
In stature in the half light; and the play
Of helm lights on the water kept her calm,
As did the arm that wrapped around her waist;
And the palm on her cheek - his heady charm
Ensured, without persuasion, she made haste
To turn and kneel and leave the boats behind;
She'd find a masted vessel that would fit
Between her lips, where she was wont to find
It also grew in stature - she'd the wit
To pull her gown right open, so he'd know
The landscape where, eventually, he'd flow...
