Decades Of Decembers/Love, Immortally Yours
You returned on leave from Germany, that cold December day.
I waited quietly as you hugged your parents, and then you gazed my way.
Encircling me in your arms, you held me against your chest.
I snuggled closer in your embrace, upon your shoulder my cheek did rest.
Holding hands, we left the airport, you held my hand so tight;
how was I supposed to know what you would do that night?
We sat around the table, all wanting to talk at once.
The evening went by too fast, and the winter sun set at last.
You got up to get more tea, when you passed very near to me.
It surprised me when your lips touched mine, so very soft, briefly.
That moment was my first kiss, my lips were warmed by yours.
I felt as though I'd entered a dream, time seemed so surreal.
He kissed me, I kept telling myself, not sure that it was real.
That evening we sat under the stars bright in the winter skies.
Between gazing at the stars and staring into each other's eyes,
you'd steal a kiss, and then another, then laugh and hold me close.
I laughed and knew right then, my Christmas wish had come true.
You came home for Christmas, and my best gift that year,
was you.
Now the decades have caused the memories to fade like ink upon a page.
I'll never forget that magical Christmas; you freed my heart from its cage.
Ten days went by, and it was time to bid you farewell.
I tried so hard not to cry, but didn't hide it well.
Life happened, our plans fell through, but I never stopped loving you.
We were not finished yet, as fate suddenly stepped in..
Unrequited lovers, we were given the chance to begin again.
Twenty Decembers had come and gone, you were never far from my mind.
Twenty Decembers later, the stars finally aligned.
Twenty Decembers later, the flame between us still burned bright.
I've not forgotten our time together, into my life you brought light.
Alas, as luck would have it, we never got the chance
to try and make a life together, from a decades-long romance.
Six Decembers later, we reconnected as friends.
Both of us too hurt and scarred to even try again.
I still love you to this day, you have my heart forever.
If you asked me now, I'd still say yes, for you never lost me.
I am yours; forever and immortally.
