The New Is Old
She’s been running so long
And yet she’s got nowhere
Just a simple look around
Can show her that
It’s just a new town
Just like the one she’s running from
The people may be different
But they’ve got the same problems
And they say the same old things
There’s nothing different than the town she’s from
Because they’re really all the same
And now a storm from the west
Has brought a howling wind
And she has nowhere left to hide
It’s just the same as the storm
Inside her beating heart
No matter where she is
It simply sounds the same
And all this running is a useless game
So she turns from the whipping winds
And gives up running from it again
And finds a shelter from the storm
You cannot trust the whole damn town
Of that much she is sure
But if you’re lucky you’ll find
Someone you can
And make a life again
To learn to live and love
In this distant town
It’s just the same as where she’s been
And yet she’s got nowhere
Just a simple look around
Can show her that
It’s just a new town
Just like the one she’s running from
The people may be different
But they’ve got the same problems
And they say the same old things
There’s nothing different than the town she’s from
Because they’re really all the same
And now a storm from the west
Has brought a howling wind
And she has nowhere left to hide
It’s just the same as the storm
Inside her beating heart
No matter where she is
It simply sounds the same
And all this running is a useless game
So she turns from the whipping winds
And gives up running from it again
And finds a shelter from the storm
You cannot trust the whole damn town
Of that much she is sure
But if you’re lucky you’ll find
Someone you can
And make a life again
To learn to live and love
In this distant town
It’s just the same as where she’s been
