Image for the poem Wolf haunts once again...

Wolf haunts once again...

Sun bleached my parchment,
it crackled dry as I scratched
pen across page.

Then I heard forlorn cries
coming from far mountain cliffs,
thought it some lonesome
wolf seeking a mate.

Scrolled pen once again
to write verse then
heard  sound of some
harsh shrieking wail.

Thought it best to pause
and reflect on the sound,
pressed paper to pen
as it screamed yet again.

Then my shaking hand
dropped pen on the floor,
picked it up just as a shadow flashed
past the window and crashed...then I knew.

Here came my feared darkness
manifested before
when I once drowned out my life with
dark sonnets soaked in morphine tears.

My old fears concealed by
transfusing fixations,
now sober I'm "all here"
can't flee this nightmare.

The wolf-man of creative
madness of mind terrorized
and as he approached
  I felt sultry breath,
"Just bring my death quick,"
  I silently begged.

"You'll now scribe your death"
  He snarled in my face.

"Scroll how you'll now die!"
His eyes glowed fire red.
Thought I'd faint from fear....

      ~ (then did) ~

.....Woke up in den.

Pen in hand.....

    Paper on desk.....

Didn't quite understand,
      yet felt grateful to not
be in jaws of a beast.

My wolf-man lurks safely
trapped in confines of mind.

~  So took a long nap...
                                      ...and dreamed about naught. ~
